VISION

Implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in South Oakleigh College enables students to work collaboratively in cross-curriculum areas and empowers them with knowledge and skills that are transferable, encouraging them to be innovative life-long learners.

STEM PROGRAM 2020

  • STEM will develop problem solving skills, innovative and critical thinking skills of the younger generation and develop their ability to use new technologies
  • South Oakleigh College will support effective STEM learning, engagement and collaboration amongst faculties to contribute to  excellence in teaching and learning

INTENT OF IMPLEMENTING STEAM THROUGH 2020 and BEYOND

  • The intent is to introduce and implement a STEM program in years 8 and 10 during Term 2 and years 7 and 9 in Term 4 in 2020.
  • The program needs to be sustainable for the future at SOC and would involve all students in the college; that is, students who are aspiring to be Engineers, Scientists, Mathematicians and those who are yet to decide on a career pathway.
  • Project-based learning will provide an opportunity for real world connections and contexts and develop critical and creative thinking skills amongst students.
