Life Education Program Visit

The Life Education van will be arriving at the College for the week commencing Friday 14 September. The College engages this program on an annual basis and is well received by staff, students and their parents. The program offers face to face delivery of an essential curriculum-based program empowering children to make safe and healthy lifestyle choices now and into their adult lives. This year, the staff have chosen the following programs for their year level (see attached):

Book Week

Congratulations to the Library staff for organising another fabulous Book Week, full of activities aimed to celebrate reading and raising awareness of the joy, interest, learning and wonder books can provide.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wrote: “There are many ways to enlarge your child’s world. A love of books is the best of all."

Often, schools only get one or two authors to visit, but the Library staff at Aitken College worked miracles and secured a wide range of authors as guest speakers for the students. Cumberland students were treated to a feast of authors:

  • Year 3 - Guest author and illustrator - Adam Wallace
  • Year 4 - Guest author and illustrator - Susannah McFarlane
  • Year 5 - Guest author - Felice Arena
  • Year 6 - Guest author – Tristan Bancks

Cumberland came together for the annual Book Week Trivia Competition where they all enjoyed the TV game show style competition recalling trivia and important facts from their reading, both in the classroom and in their library lessons.
