Challenge Stage of the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians (MCYA)

Last term students from our Year 3 and Year 4 Extension Maths class participated in the Challenge Stage of the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians (MCYA) organised by the Australian Mathematics Trust. The Challenge Stage took place over four weeks and the students were set four different problems to investigate. Each week students worked individually or in small teams to implement strategies towards producing solutions. The problems challenged the students, requiring them to be persistent, to collaborate and flex their mind. Overall, the program fostered a greater awareness of the power of Mathematics and the joy of solving interesting mathematical problems!

I would like to congratulate the following students on their fine efforts:

  • Harsh B and Alex G, who both received a distinction for finishing in the top 20% of entrants.
  • Harry D, Darcy M, Dimitri T, Ronan K, Rafael B, Kisali P and Owen M, who all finished in the top 40% and received a credit.
  • Congratulations to Brandon S and Frederick O, for developing their problem-solving skills and gaining a proficiency certificate.

Nationally, more than 1500 students entered the MCYA – Junior Division.
