Students shine at CSSA Zone Soccer Gala Day

In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, our students showcased their talents at the highly anticipated CSSA Zone Soccer Gala Day held last Friday - one of our favourite Gala Days of the year!

The event brought together schools from our South Coast CSSA Sports Zone for a day filled with exhilarating matches and spirited competition. Our players exhibited exceptional sportsmanship and dedication. The Open Girls team finished the day undefeated and as a result came home Champions, progressing through to the State Football Finals in Sydney later this month.

Thank you to our wonderful Year 10 and 11 students for their assistance in running the BBQ on the day. A big thank you also goes out to all the parents/carers, families and friends who came out to watch and cheer on our teams at the Gala Day. Your support meant the world to us and played a huge role in our teams' success!

Primary Zone Football Gala Day

On Tuesday 30 May students from NCS's Years 3-6 cohort attended the Primary Zone Football Gala Day at Ian McLennan Oval near Kembla Grange.

Both Year 3-4 and 5-6 teams had 4 matches played on either synthetic 'AstroTurf' or grass pitches. Both teams played well, without troubling the eventual winners of either competition.

The Year 3-4 team won one game and Year 5-6 team drew one game, with each team losing their remaining fixtures to high quality opposition. All NCS students acquitted themselves very well on the day.

Special mentions go to the following students: Brendan H who played every minute of all matches for the Stage 3 team either in goal or in defence and never once complained of being tired or wanted to give up! Team captain, Will A, was a 'rock' at the back running tirelessly in attempts to stave off opposition attacks and setting the tone in terms of attitude and effort for his team mates. Also to Mitchell P, who consistently played with energy and enthusiasm, winning 'player of the match' in one game. Liam C played his matches outfield, which is some achievement for a player who usually plays as goalkeeper for his club side. Amaya W was full of running and consistently passed accurately to her team mates to set up promising attacks.

Well done to all our NCS players. We're very proud of your efforts to represent the school. Thanks go to the parents who joined us to support the two teams. Extra thanks to Ethan L and Jackson C from high school who officiated as referees. More thanks go to Mr. Tasker, who took time out of his usual role in the I.T. department to coach the Year 3-4 team at lunchtimes in the lead up and on the day. Much appreciated!

Triumph Over Adversity: Impressive Performances at CSSA State X-Country

It was a cold but great day at CSSA Secondary State X-Country last Friday. Sickness and injury plagued the team in the lead up to the event, however our Secondary students showed remarkable resilience and delivered impressive performances. Despite the challenges they faced, numerous athletes secured top 10 finishes (obtaining CIS qualifications) and many shattered their personal bests.

A special congratulations to the following students for their Top 20 finishes:

2nd place - Emily McL - 15 Year Girls

6th place - Noah T - 17 Year Boys

7th place - Zec B - 14 Year Boys

8th place - Millie W - 16 Year Girls

9th place - Hamish McL - 16 Year Boys

Primary State Cross Country

Congratulations to our Primary students who competed at this Year's State Cross Country. Eighteen students from Years 3-6 attended the event to compete against up to 200 runners in each age group.

The team consisted of Amelia B, Callum B, Jack B, Nate B, Addison G, Taj G, Toby G, Claire, H, Sophie H, Penelope J, Elijah J-C, Sam K, Tianna K, Amelia P, William P, Theo S, Sienna-Lee S and Ethan V. Unfortunately Mitchell P and Alexis F were not able to attend due to illness.

Special mention should go to the following: Tianna K placed 3rd, Penelope J placed 6th, Toby G placed 15th and Addison G placed 23rd. We wish Tianna and Penelope well as they represent our school in the CSSA State team next week. Well done to all students for encouraging and supporting each other throughout the day.

WWI comes to NCS!

Stage 5 History enjoyed an entertaining and absorbing presentation that gave us valuable insights into how soldiers lived, ate, and fought during World War 1 in France. Students' feedback included comments such as:

'I especially liked how the presenter Shane had the group involved by choosing artefacts to discuss and handle.'

'Holding things from WW1 made it interactive, interesting and relevant'.

'I liked seeing examples of how weapons were used on the battlefield.'

'The best part was seeing Laurie dressed up at the front.'

'I liked the grenades.'

Kate joins 4B for work experience

Mrs Bellette’s class recently had a former student, Kate Jackson, join us for a week of work experience.  Kate said she was overwhelmed by the warm welcome she received from staff and students. Many staff remembered teaching Kate who is currently doing Year 10 at Bomaderry High and doing a course in Child Studies. It was lovely to see Kate join in activities with 4B students.  She really enjoyed designing and creating Mother’s Day cards with them on the last day of her visit.

Do you feel concerned about the increasing hostility towards Christianity in our culture? That we seem to be silenced in so many areas?

In the annual Eisteddfod, there are open categories for Bible Readings, readings from sacred scriptures (any religion) and public speaking. We have the opportunity to read the Bible in a public venue and to talk about Jesus in a speech. And yet, in this year's competition, we only had two entries from the Shoalhaven in these categories. Are there really only two people in all of the Shoalhaven who can read the Bible aloud? At the end of the Bible reading section, the adjudicator shared how deeply moved she was by the readings.

In Sydney, these categories no longer exist. Why have the Christians been silent? I challenge all of us to stand up and be counted! May our voice be heard
