Principal's Message

Welcome to winter!

This week is National Reconciliation Week and the theme is Be a Voice for Generations.  This theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work, and socialise.  National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. On Wednesday we had the National Reconciliation Week Mass Choir comprising of staff and students performing in the Canteen quadrangle as well as other curriculum-based events running in the school.

The Performing Arts have featured heavily in the last two weeks. The Theatre Studies students held performances last week and this week the Year 10 Script and Performance class presented their group devised play ‘The Platform’ .  It is terrific to see such passion for the performing arts.

Last Saturday the first day of the State Finals for Aerobics took place for Audition category.  All six of the students/alumni received a medal and all six have gone through to the Nationals in Adelaide that will take place in August.  Another 28 students will be competing this coming weekend. Good Luck and Go MGSC!

The exams commenced on the 1st of June for students in Years 9 to 11, and this will be one of the final assessments to be included in the end of semester 1 reports. It is terrific to see the students take the exams seriously and prepare earnestly for them.  This is excellent preparation for the future.

The HPE Domain are fired up this week as the Push-up Challenge Fundraiser gets underway. The event is a challenge for students and teachers to complete 3144 push-ups in 24 days. Also, well done to Teagan Dixon and Taylah McConachy for braving the cold and wet weather last week with over 30 Year 9 students at Mount Bogong on the Outdoor Education Camp.

Carol Duggan has just returned from an International Student Recruitment Drive to Japan and South Korea with the International Education Division.  We were one of the six schools to have been selected to participate in this event. We have been privileged to have had a thriving International Student Program at our college over many years and the benefit to the school community is that it broadens our global perspective immensely. During the past three years the International Student Program across the State has diminished due to border restrictions. Victoria is now encouraging international students to return to government schools.

Best wishes
