Year 10 Art students

Last Friday, some of our year 10 Art students went on excursion into the city to see the Top Arts Exhibition being held at the Ian Potter Centre, Federation Square. The students got to see A and A+ year 12 art folios from the previous year and then view those students works in an exhibition space. After looking at the year 12 artworks we went on to wander around the 3 floors of art that fill the Ian Potter Centre. It was a lovely day made even better by the everyone’s enthusiasm and interest in viewing a variety of different artworks.

Science Department Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser

A message from Deena Kaltmann

A big thank you to everyone that helped with the recent Science Bunnings Barbeque that raised over $2000 for the Science department.

I sincerely hope that I have not forgotten anyone that helped but here goes. In no special order:

Firstly, I need to thank Bunnings Warehouse for letting us run the BBQ.

The fantastic Zoe Buck and her amazing mother Tanya

Our saviour from the rain and BBQ’er, Chris Schlaghecke, father of Mitchell

The amazing Saturn Marveus who not only helped from 7:30am for the next 6 hours, but was our runner too.

The wonderful Amanda Ryan, mother of Aidan, who came early and helped us to set up and carry 15 kg of sausages without help. Wonder woman.

The generous and super hard–working Barbara Toal ( The wee kitchen ) and Garry Bugden, parents of Luca.

The amazing Nina Te Marvelde and her mother Sonia who came in on the day to help from nowhere, to save us from our helper shortage.

The always reliable and hard–working father and son duo, Ryan and Jeff Mitchell.

To the quiet achiever, Rhianna Arch who came and worked solidly for 3 hours doing whatever we needed and doing it to perfection.

To Mrs Bottica, the wonderful mother of our fantastic teacher Ms Bottica, who came to help out with a much–needed esky.

Mr Sperling who ran around picking up the sausages and onions and stinking out his car. A true legend in his own lunchbox.

Mr McGee for trusting me with the school keys.

To Mr Trambulo for helping me unpack the sausages that were left over. You saved me so much time.

To Oscar, Jack and Ahmed for being my carriers.

To Christophe who came to help from nowhere

For Michelle in the office who ran around asking for donations and then collecting them. What a legend.

Thank you to Debra Dorgan for lending us the Eftpos machine.

To all the parents and staff who donated drinks, and condiments, and other necessary equipment–thankyou.

Thank you to Coles Altona, Coles Altona Meadows, Kmart Altona Gate, Conor Nash, family Noisette and Audery Macmillan for your donations.

Thank you to Bakers Delight for donating 20 loaves of bread.

Thank you to management and office staff for supporting me.

And a BIG thank you to the Science staff and their support with whom I could not have even thought of doing this fundraiser, Ms Hagi, Ms Bottica, Kavia, and Ms Smith. You are the best team EVER.

If I have missed your name, please forgive me. I really do appreciate everything you have done to help the Altona College Science Department strive to be the best around.

Years 10-12 Push-Up Challenge 2023

This year, we would like to participate in ‘The Push-Up Challenge.’ The Push-Up Challenge is aimed at raising awareness for mental health and shining a spotlight on the number of Australians who died by suicide. We would like to get as many students as possible in years 10-12 onboard for the challenge that runs for June 1 – 23. Even if they can’t do a push-up, any other form of exercise such as squats, sit-ups, star jumps and so on, can be done to help contribute to towards their House Colour teams daily totals.

Please have a chat with your child and if they are willing to get involved, please have them send through the expression of interest via the link below and we can get cracking on sorting out house teams. https://forms.gle/d1q6tGTR3v4YvTAQ9

For more information on The Push-Up Challenge, check out their website – www.thepushupchallenge.com.au

Looking forward to it. Mrs Newton
