Mini Vinnies

Today, some of our Mini-Vinnies Students had a presentation from Tayla from the Mini-Vinnies Team to teach us all about the program and what we can do to make a difference.

They are full of ideas - keep an eye out for their next initiative!

Sacrament Preparation

Our Grade 4 Sacrament candidates are busy preparing for their first communion. Keep them in your prayers at this time.

Grade six families were sent home an Operoo to indicate their intent for their child to make their Sacrament of Confirmation later this year. If you have not done so, could you please respond to this ASAP?

Today 3/4LVT hosted their class mass, thankyou to Fr Chinua for leading this with our students.

Fire Carrier Commissioning Ceremony

Last week, St Augustine's hosted the Bunerong Cluster Schools Fire Carrier Commissioning Ceremony for 2023. Students and staff from 7 schools within our cluster visited us to take part in this day.

The Fire Carrier Progam is an initiative from the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry. 'FIRE' Stands for 'Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education'. The story of FIRE Carriers began with a dream to bring Aboriginal culture, history, and spirituality to the forefront of education in Catholic schools. It was important to teach the stories of the oldest living culture to our youngest generations to ensure the living truth, the dreams, and hopes of our Indigenous people were heard. This would be a genuine pathway to reconciliation. Our cluster has been committed to this program together for over 5 years.

We began with a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Eric and Jungala to open the event. New Fire Carriers were then commissioned and each school read a statement about their commitment to Reconciliation for the following year.

After a special morning tea of Wattle Seed Scones made by Mrs K, we participated in a number of activities to learn more about Aboriginal culture and how we can promote reconciliation.

Shanai from Maloga Art lead some students in making prayer cloths to use in our upcoming Reconciliation Week Mass, students created ceramic pots for a collaborative artwork between the schools, made bouquets from the indigenous plants in our garden, played 'hopscotch for the mob' and learned about the Uluru Statement after reading 'Finding our Heart' and created posters around the themes of 'Voice' and 'Heart'.

This week, some Fire Carrier staff from the cluster schools had a PD day traveling around the Peninsula to learn about local sights of cultural significance and hear stories.
