Inclusive Education – Adjusted Reports

At St Paul, we recognise that many children are different, they develop at different rates, and have different learning profiles. Some children also require adjustments to their learning as they have learning difficulties or disabilities.

The Australian Curriculum achievement standards are an important focus for teachers in initial planning and programming of teaching and learning activities. They provide teachers with a statement of learning expected of children at the end of a year or band of years, and assist in developing teaching and learning programs appropriate to the individual.

Teachers use the Australian Curriculum achievement standards and content to identify current levels of learning and achievement, and then to select the most appropriate content (possibly from across several year levels) to teach individual children and/or groups of children. Teachers develop teaching programs designed to build on the child’s current learning.

This year, we have changed the way we report on children requiring significant adjustments to their learning. Previously, children who received a Personalised Learning Plan were assessed using a four point criteria (emerging, developing, consolidating, independent). This year, children with an adjusted report will receive grades (A-E) based on the achievement standard that they are working towards in that subject area as indicated on their report. This provides more transparent criteria on a child’s growth against the year level standards.

Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or Inclusive Education Leader, Mrs Danielle Nak.
