Focus on Learning

Stage 1 Learning:
MATHEMATICS:
The last few weeks we have been working on addition. The students have been playing many games, watching teaching videos and completing guided groups around quick number facts, the jump strategy and we will be introducing the split strategy in the coming days.
Please see below for some photos explaining the jump and split strategy so that you can engage in a conversation with your child about these. Keep an eye on the "Mathematics" section of the Newsletter, as helpful videos are often uploaded here!
Some activities that could be practised at home to help with these skills are counting forwards and backwards by tens or hundreds from any number. For example, start at 5 and count by tens: 15, 25, 35. Start at 263 and count forwards by tens: 273, 283, 293.
LITERACY:
Last week, in preparation for Mother's Day, we were very excited to write a persuasive letter about why our mum/grandma/aunt should win an award. Here are some photos of the students completing their Big Write tasks.
We have a new member of our class - Winny the Word Monster! Winny loves to eat WOW words. Each day, we strive to put new interesting and exciting vocabulary onto our VCOP wall. When the wall becomes full, we 'feed' any older words from the wall to Winny.
These words can then be revisited during different activities throughout the term. The kids have loved Winny being the class and are always keen to add new vocab to the wall so that Winny can be fed.
