Inter School Soccer

In week 4, both the inter boys and inter girls soccer teams had their day out against rival schools.

The boys were up first, facing Fountain Gate SC, Timbarra SC, Glen Eagles SC and Berwick SC respectively. Going up against the eventual winners Fountain Gate SC in the first game with minimal training was always going to be a tough ask and it showed with a heavy loss. The boys composed themselves however and turned things around in the second game vs Timbarra with a convincing 4-1 win –Vibodh Kumar (captain for the day) scored 2 goals, Senon Mesthrige scored 1 and Ranuga Arachchilage scored the other.

This good form was carried into a tough match against perennial powerhouses Glen Eagles. The boys produced their best performance of the day, despite the 2-0 loss. Coach Mr Sterel reportedly packed the midfield in a bid to stifle the opposition and it nearly worked with some early chances that were well saved by the Glen Eagles keeper. The last game was against Berwick and with the boys tiring after a long day with little rest, they went down 4-0.

The girls were up a couple days later, facing Fountain Gate SC and Berwick SC. After losing heavily and not scoring last year, the girls were out for improvement with the aim of keeping the score down and scoring. Both were achieved in the first game! Nadini Siriwardena confidently dispatched a penalty against Fountain Gate and we lost only 5-1.

The second game against Berwick was a much bigger margin, however coming up against some players who play at National Premier League junior clubs was always going to be a huge challenge. The girls did themselves proud over the 2 games!

Special mention to Guneet Kaur for performing out of her skin as goalkeeper, even saving a penalty vs Fountain Gate! A huge congratulations to Arni Patel for captaining the team.

The team had the honour of taking a photo with Melbourne City and Australia player Matthew Leckie! We missed out on a photo with young up-and-comer Marco Tilio who walked by later on.
