Term 2 Week 4- Friday 19th May 2023

The Preps have settled back into our term 2 routine with ease.

Weeks 1 & 2 were swimming, so weeks 3 & 4 have been well and truly back to our ‘regular programming’ which the preps have responded extremely well too.

We hope all of the prep Mum’s and special friends had a lovely

Mother’s Day and you enjoyed your little gift made with lots of love for you. It was lovely to observe the thought and enjoyment that went into their watercolour painting for you.

What we are learning:

Phonics (Little Learners Love Literacy):

We have begun our new sounds this week which are b & h. We are still chanting “The letter is ____, the sound is ____”. It would be wonderful to continue this at home with the letters b & h. We are also continuing the focus on what we call heart words. These are The, My, the, my and I. We talk about when the upper case at the beginning is required

Writing:

In our writing lessons we are really focusing on letter formations and keeping our letters on the dotted thirds and have introduced finger spaces. We continue with our daily comprehension by making predictions about a story before we read it and focus on retell afterwards. We have been working hard to count syllables in words and how many words we hear in different sentences.

Reading:

We continue to have a weekly mentor text in reading. We have linked some of our mentor texts to our inquiry unit. This fortnight we have enjoyed “Tinyville Town: I’m a Police Officer '' and “Tinyville Town: ‘I'm a Veterinarian”. Each day we have a different focus, asking and answering questions, rhyming words, providing feedback and learning 3 new words for our word wall. The preps are enjoying new words each week and love to make their own sentences using words from our ever-growing word wall!

Leader In Me:

We have continuously been using 7 Habit language when we are in class and out in the yard. This week's focus is habit 2: Begin with the end in mind

Inquiry

Our unit of inquiry this term is People and Places in Our community. We are in the process of organising some special visits from people that can help us in our community so stay tuned!

Important reminders

*Please continue to check the blue pouches nightly, as we use these to send notices home

* A number of children are coming to school without a jumper. Please be sure to pack a school jumper for your child when playing outside at recess and lunchtime.

* We are finding that some jumpers are being taken home with the wrong name on it. If you could please check your child's jumper to ensure it has their name on it, that would be fantastic!

*Please ensure that your child has a substantial lunch such as a sandwich/roll/wrap or thermos for example for lunch along with a snack (cracker/yoghurt) and fruit or vegetables.

*Daily we have a fruit break, we kindly ask that you please pack your child a piece of fruit or a vegetable to snack on during this time.

*Please have your child’s drink bottle filled with water only.
