Leadership Morning
Last Tuesday our school opened its doors to the community to showcase how the students and staff practice Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The event provided students opportunity to focus in on the Habits and how they are using them in their daily routines. Guests listened to testimonies from students, staff and parents, enjoyed inspirational music and songs, and walked through classrooms. Stops and observations on the school tour include AUSLAN, Green Team, Cooking, Art, Goals, Lead Measures and Leadership Notebooks, Circle of Influence and Mat Man (a Foundation activity demonstrating synergy). The students shone and visitors were enriched. The next Leadership Morning is Wednesday October 19th.
Acknowledgement of Country in AUSLAN
It was impressive to see 12A saying and signing the acknowledgment to start last week’s Leadership Morning assembly. The teachers and students are to be commended for their enthusiasm, effort and inspiration.
New Line Marking and Images
This week a range of images were added to the yard’s hard surfaces. At the front of the school the Leader in Me logo welcomes visitors into the school’s main entrance. A large map of the world sits perfectly between the art and main buildings, featuring the continents in different colours. A life-size chessboard and snakes and ladders board will provide the students will another level of interactivity. The large chess set, and dice will arrive shortly. There are two new colourful four-square courts for more students to use, and an activity trail that sweeps around the BER building. The project was totally funded by the Social and Fundraising Sub-Committee, in 2022. The Le Page Primary School Community is hard-working in its effort to improve the school environment for the students. The 2022 Student Lighthouse Team (Student Representative Council) chose the images that are now set to make the school yard more interactive and fun.
Movie Making Program
Movie production is in its initial stage for 2023. This is an annual celebratory experience, which ends in a film festival at Village Cinemas. It takes a professional director and producer to facilitate the lengthy process. We hire the services of Bruce Grantford from Kids in Shorts – fantastic film festivals for primary schools. https://www.kidsinshorts.com.au/
Elements of the program include:
- 10 workshop/rehearsal days
- 10 shoot days
- 18 edit days
- scripts, music and sound effects
- digital movie links
Further details can be accessed via Compass. Any family facing financial hardship is encouraged to contact Le Page Primary School’s Business Manager Wendy Sheppard, as we would like all students to enjoy this experience. The movies will not be uploaded on public social media platforms. Cinema seat tickets will go on sale in November, for the November screening.
Indigenous Perspectives
This year a new plan has been set, to continue the positive momentum of teaching and learning about Indigenous Perspectives.
New Staff Members
We welcome Julie Taylor and Nick O'Donovan to our team at Le Page Primary School. Julie is leading a literacy intervention strategy based on Little Learners Love Literacy, targeting students in years 3 to 6 who require additional time to master their phonetic awareness. Nick is currently based with the Year 34 team, providing additional support for students, in class and across the cohort. They are great additions to our team and already making strong links with the students. Five pre-service integration aides have also joined the Le Page Primary School staff for a six-week placement.
Kingston Before and After School Care Survey Reminder
This week parents using the service were asked to complete a short, two-question survey via Compass, regarding usage and accessibility. The survey closes on Monday. Parents still have time to have their say.
Inclusive School Fund
The long awaited $200,000 project to develop an inclusive garden space has started. Construction is scheduled for July August. The area under the old shade sail at the top end of the school will have an indigenous theme comprising totem poles, circular gathering places, a sculpture, mural and native plants.
Lunchtime Clubs
Lunchtime clubs are of interest to many students and sessions are often fully booked. Miss Susie now facilitates the Tuesday Choir Club. There is no maximum number so all interested can participate. Last week the young singers had a blast.
