Fabulous 5/6

Message from the Teachers

Week 4 is upon us, and we have all gotten down to the nitty gritty of our learning this term. We have begun our math groups, focusing on each student’s area of need in subtraction. These will be running until Week 7.

In writing we are deep into a variety of different research areas and creating different reports on what we have learnt. Finally in reading, we are continuing with our class novels, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda, and the students are improving their ability to understand what they read and break down the motives and characteristics of the characters in their book.

Interschool Sports have begun, and the kids have been practicing hard in their individual teams. This is the first time we have had different sports to play, and I want to congratulate and thank all the kids for giving different sports a go and Mr Bradley for organising. A special mention to Jake and Josh H who volunteered to change sports to help Mr Bradley fill up a team with low numbers, well done boys.

Finally, we have just come back from our excursion at CERES and I want to thank the 5/6’s for being great role models for the 3/4’s who we went with.

As always, please contact Sam or Nick if you need anything to support your child or about any of the upcoming events. Our emails are: Nicholas.Duckett@education.vic.gov.auSamuel.Boontjes@education.vic.gov.au

What we have been up to

Hi, my name is Noah Eyre, and I am a leader in Mathematics. I am Bentleigh Lewis, and I am a leader in footy and I am Snighda Udupa, and I am a leader in Art.

In the last two weeks, we have been doing lots of things. In Maths, we have been learning about diagrams and graphs. I liked graphs even though they were a bit challenging. You draw two lines, one horizontal and one diagonal, and then you put your data in. My favourite graph is a line graph (Noah). In Reading, we have been reading non-fiction passages. I love reading them because I learn more every time (Snighda).

Reading “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in 56A for Book Club has also been great (Bentleigh). We also started our Kindergarten buddies’ program. I was playing basketball and soccer with my buddy and had lots of fun (Bentleigh). We are so excited to go on our excursion to CERES as well. Have a great weekend, everyone!
