Fantastic 3/4

Term 2 Week 4 2023

What have we been up to?

In Literacy, our focus has been on information reports. Our students have been engaged in exploring different types of information reports. For the remainder of the term, our literacy lessons will revolve around learning new information about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Additionally, we have been teaching our students how to take proper notes, which will enable them to write their own sentences independently.

In Maths, we have been delving into Number and Algebra concepts. We recently introduced the concept of subtraction to our students. To ensure each student is appropriately challenged in all maths sessions, we have organised them into groups that target their specific areas of need.

In Science, our students had an exciting opportunity to release our butterflies. They observed and learned about the butterfly lifecycle, and it was truly a delight to witness their enthusiasm. Going forward, we will continue to explore how the environment impacts butterflies, providing valuable insights into the natural world.

In Inquiry, students had the opportunity to go to CERES as an excursion. CERES (Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) is a renowned environmental park located in Melbourne, Australia. It serves as a vibrant hub for sustainability education, community engagement, and ecological restoration. CERES actively promotes cultural diversity and acknowledges the rich heritage of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The organisation recognizes the significance of learning about Indigenous cultures and their deep connection to the land. Through various programs and initiatives, CERES provides opportunities for students to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, history, and traditions. They offer educational experiences that foster understanding and respect for Indigenous knowledge, practices, and storytelling.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Here’s what we have been up to

What’s coming up?

Literacy

In Literacy, our focus will continue to be on information texts for reading and writing. We will be exploring a range of non-fiction texts and developing skills in summarising, note-taking, and identifying key information. The children will also be creating their own information texts, using their research skills, and learning how to present information in a clear and engaging way.

Numeracy

In Maths, we will continue our  focus on subtraction. The children will learn various subtraction strategies and develop their problem-solving skills through the use of real-world scenarios and word problems.

Science & Inquiry

In Science, we will be exploring the Biological Sciences. The children will learn about living things, including their structures, behaviours, and interactions with their environments. They will engage in hands-on activities and experiments to deepen their understanding of living systems.

In Inquiry, our focus will be on Indigenous Australians First Contact. We will be exploring the historical context and impact of the first contact between Indigenous Australians and European settlers.
