Egg and Spoon Race

The House Colour Competition for Week 5 was the 'Egg and Spoon Race'.

It was a tricky balancing act for all students to get their egg from one side of the Hall to the other. Well done to everyone! Great work to everyone this week for following the rules and having lots of fun! It was Eggcellent.

Prep:

For Reconciliation Week, the prep class looked at different dream time stories. A popular favorite was the Rainbow serpent. As a class we made a giant collaborative rainbow serpent filled with colours and Bunurong area appropriate symbols that we learnt are important for communication with different indigenous languages and story telling.  Our giant rainbow serpent is on display on the pinboard near the treehouse room.

Strength and Gratitude Tree- RR

Two weeks ago in Respectful Relationships, the Preps created a big Strength and Gratitude tree to place in our calm corner to remind us of all of the things that make us great. We made leaves for the tree and wrote what we are greatful for in our lives, things that some people might not be lucky to have and that we shouldnt take for granted, like: our loving families, friends and having access to food, water, education and somewhere safe and warm to live. We also got a stone each to write our personal strength down. We brainstormed great words to choose from like: Caring, hard-working, kind, brave, funny, helpful, friendly, calm and respectful to name a few.

5/6- Talk Money Incursion

During Week 5, the 5/6 Students participated in a 'Talk Money' incursion which focused on saving money and understanding how saving money can impact on their future. Through a series of activities, the students examine how people value money differently and how they can have constructive conversations with family and friends about money. They learnt how to set savings goals as part of managing their money. The students had a deeper understanding of needs and wants and looked at strategies and scenarios relating to saving to purchase essentials such as groceries, clothes and school supplies. They also learnt simple tips and tricks, for example: putting any $2 coins away in a piggy bank as a saving and use the rest of your spending money to spend.

3/4 and 5/6- STEM Incursion

Both 3/4 and 5/6 classes experimented with circuits and learnt about materials that were conductors and insulators. They hypothesised and tested materials such as forks, toy cars, foil and string. They then had a try at building the strongest most stable 7 storey tower using building blocks and blue-tak. Finally, the students made sense of waste water and drinkable water used in our bathrooms and toilets.

Year 3/4 Stephanie Alexander Program

This term the 3/4 students are taking part in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Last week they planted a variety of veggies in the senior yard garden.

On Thursday the 3/4 students went to the Queen Victoria Market. They were taken on a tour to explore and learn about the history of the market. They then split into groups to buy items from their shopping list to cook a dish back at school!

On Friday students worked in their groups to cook their delicious meals with the fresh produce they had bought at the market. All students were such great cooks and loved trying all the different dishes! The meals they cooked were smoothies, berry muffins, pancakes and fruit, veggie patties, potato chips, tomato pasta, pizzas and rice paper rolls.

Collecting data with Skittles!

Students completed a fun data lesson involving recording colours of skittles in a bag and creating a graph.
