Staff Profile

Zoe Geard | Marketing & Communications Coordinator

1. When did you join The Friends' School?

I attended Friends’ as a student from Year 7 (2001) to Year 12 (2006). I then came back and joined the School as a staff member in 2016.

2. What do you do at The Friends’ School?

I am the Marketing & Communications Coordinator for the School. My role incorporates publications (such as Echoes, What’s On, Rose & Waratah, course books, handbooks, etc), photography, the social media channels, graphic design, copywriting, videography, email communications and our school website. I also assist with events from time to time.

4. Where is your favourite place in the world?

I feel like my favourite place changes all the time, depending on my mood and who I am with. For most of the summer, my favourite place was paddling my kayak on the Derwent River at New Norfolk (near our home), however, on our Honeymoon, my husband and I were stuck in Paris during the transport strikes. We were both tired, sore from the terrible bed in our accommodation and we really wanted to speak to someone nice (rather than the agitated Parisians who were all around us). We found a tiny pub called “The Bombardier” which was run by a man from the UK. That little pub was definitely my favourite place in the world that afternoon and for a couple of afternoons after that!

5. Why Friends'?

Mainly because the School’s values align with my own in ways that a lot of other organisations don’t offer. As someone that specialises in Marketing, a lot of the roles available to me are based around working with a product or service that I may not agree with, so it was very refreshing to come into an organisation like Friends’ that places such emphasis on values like earth care, equality and peace. I also believe that education is very important and, from my time as a Friends’ student, I know that the staff at Friends’ really care about their students and what they are teaching them.

6. Who is your hero?

Real: My High School English Teacher (she knows who she is!)

Less Real: Ellen Ripley (from the movie Alien
