A Note from Nelson

As I write this note, Term 3 has just finished. What a year it has been so far. COVID-19 has mostly been held at bay here in Tasmania with the last community transmission occurring sometime in mid-April 2020. We have all enjoyed a more or less 'normal' existence here in Tasmania since early June and at School for the past many months. There have been continuing adjustments at School - additional hand sanitiser found around the campus, a COVID-19 Hygiene Officer at each home game our students play and the cancellation or alterations to long-cherished events like Grandparents Day or the Leavers' Service. Having said that, the Year 12 students enjoyed a lovely Leavers' Dinner on Friday 25 September on campus and in The Farrall Centre. The selection of next year's Head Girl and Head Boy also took place the final week of term with Aaliyah Walker and Riley Curtain being asked to fulfil these roles for 2021.

Term 4 is shaping up to maintain as many of the usual events and activities for our community, although, and again, because of the pandemic, they are likely to be in slightly different formats.

This year has thrown many challenges across the world, however, The Friends' School has risen to the challenge and has continued to work to engage all of our students keeping The Purpose and Concerns at the forefront of what we do. Creating positive, contributing members of society who think clearly, act with integrity, make decisions for themselves, are sensitive to the needs of others and the environment, are strong in service and hold a global perspective continues to drive the School into the future.

I hope everyone has a lovely end of the year. I also hope the world is able to come to grips and find solutions for the pandemic that has impacted all of our lives.

In Peace,

Nelson File, Principal
