What's happening in the 5/6 classrooms

The last few weeks have been very busy in the senior school as students began preparing

to present their inquiry learning for the term. We are really looking forward to seeing their finished products!

In Reading we have had a strong focus on summarising a text, both visual and written, using the main idea and supporting details to do so. In Writing the students have been busily writing, editing and revising their information reports using the information that they researched earlier in the term.

In Inquiry the students have begun working on the method they have chosen to present their information. They could select from 5 options: a poster, brochure, book, using a Google slide presentation or as a recorded news report! We have been looking at a set of criteria to follow when creating and presenting the information and we can’t wait to see what the students produce!

In SEL we have explored how persistence can be demonstrated through trying alternative solutions when trying to reach a goal, and how to be persistent in our learning by setting learning goals, keeping on track and monitoring our own progress.

In Religious Education we have been investigating the actions of the Holy Spirit in the world, beginning with the Holy Spirit visiting the disciples at Pentecost and using the Main, Side Hidden thinking routine to help us unpack the event. Students identified the following:

Main: What is happening to the main characters in the story?

Side: What happened to the other characters in the story?

Hidden: What is the hidden message in this story?
