Magis report

Congratulations to Koolyangarra House which won the inaugural Magis Academic House shield this year from Loreto and Campion. The shield was decided by aggregate points from the five Magis Academic Challenges held this year. The total entries was well over 1000, with Year 12 just edging out Year 11 for the greatest number of participants, but the responses was excellent in all year groups from Years 7 to 12. Special congratulations to gold medallists at each year level, Ben Negus and Jacob Rigg (Year 12), Grace Barbour (Year 11) Jennifer Ong (Year 10), Daniel Doran (Year 9), Thomas Syminton (Year 8), and Marco Zammuto (Year 7). The shield and gold medals were presented at Secondary Assembly this week. Congratulations also to the outstanding students who gained silver or bronze medals. These and merit certificates will be awarded at House Assemblies or the Magis Awards Breakfast next term. There is a link to the House Academic Challenge results below.
Nine Year 7 Magis students have participated this week in the three day Curtin University Global Goals Challenge at Servite College. The students worked in mixed groups with other schools working on presentations identifying major global issues and possible solutions to these, and there many outstanding ideas . Warmest thanks to the students involved: Jennifer Ong, Amelia Watts, Luisa Parish, Kai Cranfield, Zo McIlree, Elsie Samson, Steffi Imhoff, Jazmin Kirk and Poppy Hartfield, and to Mr Connellan and Mr Haines who supported the students on the Wednesday and Thursday.
Congratulation to all students who participated in the final of the Atticus Finch Award. The standard was exceptionally high and a great credit to all involved.
The John XXIII House Chess Championship is now in full swing, and has been pleasing to see quite a few supporters watching these cerebral games in the Library. Year 8 has the greatest number of entries of any year group (15) and the first two rounds have now been completed, with finals in some division starting this coming week. Good luck to all competitors.
