Student Achievement

Year 7 student Lucas's passion for baseball, and more recently officiating, has won him this year's John Larter Umpire Development Scholarship.

The scholarship opportunity recognises Lucas as an up and coming umpire who shows promise and ability.

Lucas comes from a 'baseball family', with both parents active players. Lucas has been playing baseball since Little League and currently at Cheltenham Baseball Club.

His interest in baseball broadened to include umpiring, where he displayed an array of passion for his craft. Within a short time, Lucas's passion for umpiring lead to invaluable experience of officiating at Under 14 and Under 16 State Championship Grand Finals.

Baseball is not seen as a mainstream sport in Australia, but Lucas shares that it is a thriving and exciting sport.

Lucas's advice to students who may be interested in baseball, or umpiring, is "Give it a go".

St James hopes that this scholarship will help Lucas achieve his umpiring goals and aspirations into his future.
