Online Resources

We are currently trialling a wonderful resource for 2021. Britannica Online Student was used in my previous schools and I found it to be very accurate and comprehensive. It also contains a lot of Australian content. Links to videos, magazine articles and websites on most topics are only a click away. There are some great features including reading aloud, translation in text, citation, and so on. This trial is available to the school community until 30 October, 2020. Try it out today. Feedback to library@sjcbe.catholic.edu.au welcome. There is also a link on the library website.

Remote Cataloging Project

During this time of remote learning in August and September, as well as working with my English classes, I have been cataloguing at home. I had 100 new books delivered, including suggestions by our Student Library Leaders, CBCA Book Week titles and other purchases from this year. I also brought home 200 books for re cataloguing and updating. As part of the cataloguing project I  have created reading lists on the library website under Quick Lists  to help the boys in choosing a title. All these 300 books, including the 100 new titles have been added to a “Reading list”.

Reading list Genres include Adventure, Australian, Biography, Classics, Crime, Fantasy, History, Horror, Humour, Mystery, Science Fiction, Sports, Teenage, War.

Books are arranged in these genres and the next project is to update all the fiction books that are at school and add to these reading lists. Once we are open again, students will be able to  reserve, borrow and collect from the library. More books titles will then be added to the reading lists.

St James College Writes 50

Thank you to the students and staff for their contributions to the St James College Writes 50. A student poem from Year 7  gives us all a sense of Spring – as a beautiful season to embrace – the warm sunshine, new buds on the trees opening and birds happily singing. The compilation of these poems will soon be available on the library website link.

Spring

I smell the flowers

And feel the power

Seeing the birds flow

And feeling the wind blow

Feeling happy inside

And feel my pride

Going to the park

And seeing the dogs bark

Going to have fun

And starting to do a run

Viewing the ducks

And drinking out of my cup

Can’t wait for tomorrow

To see the spring game show

Spring is here.

Spring

Spring, the blossoming flowers that make me sneeze

The pine trees, infested with bees

The sunsets make me feel calm,

On days like these, I lay down underneath a tree palm.

Sitting outside, underneath the sun,

Going out with friends and having fun.

Some days cold, some days hot,

Sitting by a heater, looking outside at a flowerpot

Loans

Student books have been renewed until 26 October, 2020. Once we return to school, students are invited to drop off all their library books. Christmas holiday loans will be available from mid- November.

Happy reading everyone and take care
