Living with Strength and Kindliness Part 1

The Season of Creation
The Season of Creation is a relatively new addition to the Catholic Church’s Liturgical Year.
In 2015 Pope Francis added the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation to the calendar. In 2019 the Vatican asked Catholic communities to celebrate the Season of Creation. It has become a celebration that joins together many Christian communities across the world celebrating God as creator. The Season extends from the 1st September to the 4th October. The bookend to conclude the Season of Creation is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi a well known Catholic Saint, patron of the environment and the world’s animals, and namesake of Pope Francis himself. The Season of Creation celebrates and reflects prayerfully on the gifts of creation and the mission given to us by God to care for creation, and respond to its needs and crises today.
Pope Francis asks of us, 'What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?'

Prayer for our world
Creator God, who made our beautiful world,
appointed us as its guardians
and gifted us with everything we need,
forgive us
for the times we cause it harm;
for the times our way of life
affects our neighbours.
Inspire us
to care for the environment;
to help rebuild lives and communities;
to share in the griefs and anxieties,
joys and hopes of all your people;
so that all your creation may flourish.
Amen.
Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si, has one unifying message: it’s time to come together to care for our common home.
