Week 9 PE

Hello Miners Rest Community. We hope that you are all making it through the lockdown and restrictions as best as possible.

It has really been a pleasure for us to be able to provide opportunities for the students and their families to keep moving and be active during these times. The past few days have welcomed some much needed sunshine. Perfect weather to be outside in the backyard or off on a walk. Make sure you take any opportunity you can to embrace the sun to boost your Happy Check :D

Last week students were encouraged to develop and practise their soccer dribbling and trapping skills. We appreciated all of the submissions and videos. It is great to see individuals having a red hot go and also those that involved other family members, including their pets! Remote Learning has enabled the connection between home and school to further develop as family members play a greater role in facilitating the learning and celebrating success as it happens.

This week, we have mixed things up and encouraged the students to plan and execute their own Trick Shots. This is such a fun and engaging activity for all ages that assists the students in developing hand-eye coordination, demonstrating patience, persistence and strategic skills whilst providing the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. Students showed that they could work independently or with others to challenge themselves and pursue success.

We both actually found it to be a very addictive activity, especially when we were creating our own demonstration video! We set our sights on a Trick Shot goal and then persevered, learning from each failure until accomplishing what we had set out to do.

Next week, the last week of term, we will be focusing on Yoga and Mindfulness. A great way to finish off the term and move into school holiday mode.

We would like to thank the school community for their participation in Remote Learning PE for the most part of Term 3. Remember to reuse any of our lessons during the school holidays when looking for ideas on how to keep moving and stay active. Hopefully we start having more frequent warmer and drier days and we can all enjoy physical activity in the fresh air.

Stay Active and Stay Safe.

From Katherine and Rick!
