Dear Families,

I would like to take the opportunity to share some of the amazing work from our students during Science week. This year's Science Week ‘Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans’was the school theme for National Science Week and at Trinity each year level looked at the different aspects of our oceans.

The Year P/1 students investigated the Earth's Oceans and the ocean plants and animals and ocean layers. They then created their own 'Under the Sea' dioramas after exploring all the amazing sea creatures in our oceans. The Year 2/3/4 students investigated the damaging impact of water pollution and explored what we can do to help keep the oceans clean. The students watched a 'Ted Talk' where Molly Steers, a Cairns schoolgirl, sparked a national movement to try and save the Great Barrier Reef by ending single-use plastics. The students were inspired by her talk and created an innovative poster to raise awareness of what we can do to help keep our oceans clean.

The Year 4/5 /6 students explored innovative ways which engineers have tackled marine pollution. They listened to the story of Boyan Slat, the young founder and CEO of The Ocean Clean-up. He is inspiring people, organizations and governments to find solutions to the escalating threat of plastic debris in our ocean. The students then designed their own product to manage plastics and marine debris.

Congratulations to everyone for your wonderful work!

Thanks for your support over the term.
