What's Happening at OLA

Pre-Primary

It has been a wonderful term of learning in Pre-Primary. Here are a few photos of some of the hard work we have completed this term.

In PPG, we have included photos of our amazing paintings of the story, How the Birds Got Their Colours. We wrote prayers to God thanking him for creation. Our mini monsters were connected to the story, The Monsters’ Party. We practised fine motor work by creating outline hearts. Finally, we designed a neighbourhood map. Each person in the class contributed to the map. We hope you enjoy our photos.

In PPM, we painted what we can see out of our own windows at home. This connected with the story, I Looked Through My Window, which we were reading during shared reading. We also created collage animals to show our, ‘what could happen next’ prediction for the story, Rabbit and Rooster’s Ride. With Mrs Durkin, we created artwork to show places that are special to us. In Health, we looked at the different needs and wants of our pets.

Year 2

Our Year 2 children have each completed a colourful and creative diorama! After all the research was completed, the children wrote a draft and then a good copy of a report on their own choice of a sea creature. The proper format for a report was followed, and the results are amazing! When creating their own diorama, each child used a variety of art and craft items, including; play dough, alfoil, pom poms, wool, card and pipe cleaners.  Each sea creature diorama is truly unique!

Year 4

During our Art lessons we recreated Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Vase. We learned about brush strokes, contrasting colours and shading. Our vase designs are unique and colourful. It is lovely to have a room of beautiful flowers. Thank you, Van Gogh for the inspiration.

Our next challenge in Art is to create a paper city view. That is a city that is made up of seven layers of paper. We start at the background, move to the middle ground and finally look at the foreground. We have drawn our drafts and can’t wait to put all the layers together and add details to final design.

We have been preparing for our final item for this term. Yes, the Year 4 Assembly is on Friday, 29 June at 2.40pm. We hope we can impart some of the things we have learnt in Science and some tips to improve our environment. We can all make a difference to the Earth. The topic ‘Packaging It Better’ is more than appealing packages. It is how we can create packages that don’t impact on future generations e.g. no more single use plastic bags in shops, means less landfill.

Year 6

During our Science lessons we have been investigating insulators and conductors. We found many materials in the classroom and ourselves, which served as both…..from gold earrings, chair legs and our ministry badges.

Mr D’s ‘antique’ overhead projector gave us some exciting images which we enlarged and coloured. Images varied from cartoon characters to a selfie of Miss Figueira, we also had a large representation of Marvel characters …. please feel free to visit Year 6 to view these amazing art pieces.

A huge thank you to the P&F committee’s ‘Teachers Wish List’ contribution. We have purchased some furniture to brighten up our classrooms as well as providing us with comfortable and fun areas to complete our work and carry out group activities in.
