Principal's Report

Meet and Greet

It was terrific to see so many parents take the opportunity to have a quick catch up with teachers last week.  If you were unable to make it, or need more time with your child’s teacher, feel free to make contact and organise an alternative time.  It’s always good to arrange a time that suits both parties for catch ups, as teachers won’t usually be available for more than a quick chat in the mornings as you are doing the drop off.

Curriculum Day - Vacation Care

As next Tuesday is a student free day we are offering a Vacation Care day at Base 1270.

Unfortunately we are having difficulty setting up the app to allow online bookings. If your child/ren are already enrolled at Base 1270 and you would like to make a booking for that day please email your request to oshc@buninyongps.vic.edu.au

For any new bookings please give Mel in the office a call.

Fete Planning

Our Fete Team had its 1st official meeting yesterday and a big thankyou to Ange Stock, Susie Brumby, Miranda Boreham and Melinda Stewart who have joined the team representing parents across the school community.

You’ll see a page dedicated to the fete on each of our newsletters over the coming month to keep you up to date with what’s happening.

End of Day Messages

We regularly receive messages from families regarding changes of plans for their children at the end of the school day.  This usually relates to whether or not a child to get on a bus, who is picking them up or where they are to go after school.

It would be greatly appreciated if these messages could be delivered to office staff by 3:15pm or earlier, as the office gets very busy late in the school day and sometimes it can be difficult, at late notice, to get important messages to students. Thanks for your understanding with this matter.

School Bus Services

Our school has 3 country bus runs coordinated by Public Transport Victoria (PTV).  These travel to and from Mount Mercer, Yendon and Elaine.  Students who use these bus services are officially registered to do so.

We’re currently working through the process of meeting with all bus travellers to remind them of behaviour expectations on buses.  At this meeting the students will receive a Bus Travel Code of Conduct and it would be fabulous if you could take a moment to sit down and read it through with them.

Where there is space, an opportunity exists for students to use one of these buses on an ad hoc basis.  An example might be where a student is staying with another student who is a registered bus traveller.  In these instances, please complete an Ad Hoc Bus Travel permission form and have it back into the school at least 2 days before travel.  These forms can be collected from the general office.

If you have any questions regarding bus travel, please see Bernie or Mel in the office.

UNIFORM

A big thankyou to families for making sure your children are coming to school in full uniform.  As a result, the kids are looking great.  One of the reasons we have a uniform is to make life easy for parents.  That is, no arguments in the morning about what your child is wearing.

From time to time we have a handful of students wanting to wear what they feel is fashionable, rather than what complies with our uniform.  Typically these include:

  • Jeans – Jeans are not part of the uniform.  There are a few options for long pants, but jeans (including black jeans) is not one of them.
  • Shorts with logos – School shorts should be plain black.  Sports shorts which sometimes are very short or include white or coloured logos do not fit our uniform.
  • Coats – It is fine for students to wear a coat in very cold weather.  However the coat does not replace the school jumper.  If it’s cold enough to wear a coat, it’s cold enough to have a school jumper on underneath.  In 2018 we introduced a school coat and School Council has determined that from the beginning of 2020 Buninyong coats will become part of the uniform.  This means that if students chooses to wear a coat from 2020, it needs to be a school coat. Please keep this in mind if you are purchasing a coat for your child with the intention of them wearing it at school.

BYOD

Mr Coulter would like to thank all who attended the BYOD info session last week. Anyone who missed last week's session is invited to attend a follow up session which Aaron will run another session tomorrow, Wednesday 20th @ 4pm in the Meeting room.  This will be useful for anyone who needs to get their child connected to the school WiFi.
