Year 6 News

The Year 6 students are currently looking at world events from the last century that shaped Australia today. This is proving a meaningful Inquiry unit, made more so by the current world event we are experiencing and how that is shaping our world today.

After the First World War many towns and cities in Victoria built memorials and planted avenues of honour to commemorate the soldiers who never returned from the War. Ballarat has the longest avenue of honour with over three thousand trees lining the road. The Great Ocean Road was built as a memorial by returned soldiers. It is in fact, the largest war memorial in the world. The Year 6 students were given the task of responding to this information in a variety of ways. Nicholas from 6AJ created a minecraft  map of Victoria and included significant memorials in his map. This was an incredible piece of creativity as the time taken to precisely place each piece and the attention to detail in his work is outstanding.
