University Information Evening for Senior Students and Parents 2019

This will be held in the Rosary Theatre on Wednesday 24 July which is in the first week of next term from 7:00pm -8:30pm.  For parents, whose Year 12 student is applying to university, this will give you the information you need to understand what is involved in both applying and attending university. It will cover the process, important dates and financial aspects.

Year 11 students and parents are also invited to attend if they want to get an idea of what is coming up  for them in 2020 and 2021 to be able to plan ahead. So please put this date on your calendar.

Guest Speakers - Southern Cross University, University of New England (UNE) & Duval College

Last week senior students had the option to attend talks by representatives from these institutions about courses, facilities and options. McCarthy welcomed back former students, Ellen Flanagan and Paul Murphy, who are studying at UNE and staying on campus at Duval College as part of the "My College, My School" program. Their presentation included wise words from Olivia Riley another ex-MCC student.

Tamworth TAFE - “Taste of TAFE”

Last week, Wednesday 26 June, over 70 McCarthy students from Years 9-12 attended the "Taste of TAFE" at the Tamworth campus. After a BBQ lunch, they attended tours and talks on a range of course options such as automotive, fitness, plumbing, hospitality, business, electro-technology, animal care and other areas.

This was a great initiative by TAFE NSW; there were positive comments from the students afterwards, with many deciding to change and or broaden the career or industries choices in which they decided to work.

July Holiday Workshops and HSC Revision

In the recent Careers Newsletter, supplied to Year 12, there were details of the many workshops and open days being offered by universities and private colleges.  These activities help students with future choices and offer a range of HSC revision courses, including days being held to assist them in their preparation for their HSC.

Year 10

UAC has provided information on their website to assist Year 10 students and their parents when it comes to subject selection.  This was on the McCarthy Careers Facebook page and was emailed to all students.

Students who are not intending to apply to university are advised by UAC to choose subjects that they are interested in, including non-ATAR subjects or EVET subjects that are more practical or suited to their career aspirations.

There are booklets from UAC, various universities and further sheets that will be distributed to students next term.
