A “Book Tasting” in Time for the Holidays
Earlier this week, all Year 7 English classes were invited to a Book Tasting in the Library. Each student had the opportunity to “taste” four books each and discuss each with their classmates. At the end of the lesson they were encouraged to borrow at least one book for the holidays. Reading for pleasure is a joy and, as J.K. Rowling said, “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.”
10 Reasons Why the Internet is No Substitute for a Library
This is well worth reading. The non-fiction books in our library have been selected to support the syllabuses and subjects taught at McCarthy. They are specifically targeted at certain year levels, such as junior books on Medieval Europe and a senior biology books on Cells.
The College has quite stringent quality control processes in what the College Library purchases and what appears in the Oliver library catalogue. These resources, have been carefully selected to support students and their learning, whereas, the internet has no filters or quality control as to the accuracy of the information it provides.
