In the kitchen's this term...

We have had an interesting term both in and outside of the kitchens for Food Technology.  Students in the 9/10 elective have been looking at food waste and sustainability have contributed their own small solutions.  They have used a digital media type new to most, called 'Piktochart'.  This info-graphic designing app has allowed students to demonstrate some wonderful and creative thinking when it comes to not filling our landfill with food we don't use.  Thinking globally, acting locally as they say!

Student cooking has also reflected the food waste and sustainability concepts and we have been attempting to use leftovers to prepare meals.  Here, Jayda has used homemade, leftover focaccia, made her own mayonnaise and poached egg to create a delicious breakfast with very little waste in sight!  We also used leftover tortillas wraps to make vegetarian Nacho Bowls.

Food For Thought MAP has visited Springvale Market, Phillip Island's "Manny's Chocolate Factory" and cooked many delicious recipes including pork dumplings, fried rice, Myra's Lemon and Coconut Cake and our very own Hamida's Afghani recipe for Bolani Kachalou.  The students are getting a taste of new and different cultures and are loving it.  As this goes to print we are hosting donut sensation and driven young entrepreneur Morgan Hipworth.  As a senior high school student, he has created his own donut empire in Prahran, known as 'Bistro Morgan'.  Hopefully, his enthusiasm and hard work ethic will rub off on all of us.
