Library Corner

Term 4 is always a whirlwind with exams, transition and end of year celebrations making the time whiz by so quickly! It seems that every day the library is full to the brim with students studying, relaxing, borrowing books, socialising, meeting with teachers and planning for next year.

We recently awarded our second round of Book Review Prizes for 2018. Congratulations to the following students who wrote insightful book reviews for our library website and were rewarded with book vouchers to Readings:

Roni Segal (7A)

Pranjal Menariya (7G)

Caitlin Blair (8B)

Penny McNeill (8B)

During the languages assembly we also awarded certificates to the top borrowers for each of our library language collections. They are:

French: Antonin Serrot (7A)

Japanese: Sowndharyaa Ramanathan Manikandan (7E)

Hebrew: Roni Segal (7A)

Our last Book Club meeting for 2018  was a chance to celebrate a wonderful year of reading, sharing book recommendations and spending time with fellow bookworms. Thank you to every student who attended at least one Book Club gathering this year - there were over 80 of you! - and especially to our “regulars” who make the meetings so much fun.

We also had our final Library Monitors meeting and morning tea, where each monitor was awarded a certificate and small gift. The library staff wish to extend their gratitude to each student who helped keep our library a tidy, inclusive, well-utilised space this year.

During transition we met with all 2019 Year 12 students through a Library Orientation session. With the demands of their final year at school upon them, the library offers numerous resources and services in order to help our senior students achieve the best results in their studies and deal with any stress. This includes extended opening hours, online resources & a healthy VCE collection filled with all the latest study guides in each subject.

Our last event for the year will be a Library Open Mic. We are looking forward to hearing from the 10 brave students who have put their name down to perform original songs, poetry and short stories! Anyone else is welcome to step up and take part on the day.

With holidays just around the corner, now is the time to sort out your holiday reading. We encourage students to empty our shelves and take home as much reading material as they can carry… otherwise the books get lonely over the summer!

It is with a heavy heart that I say this will be my last “Library Corner” article. I will be leaving Glen Eira College at the end of the year to pursue another opportunity, and I know I will miss the staff and students here very much. Keep up the love for your library - you are the ones that make it the vibrant hub that it is!
