During Book Week the Year 3 and 6 students were treated to a visit by the author George Ivanoff, who presented a very entertaining insight into how he writes his books and comes up with ideas.

Some of the students in 3D came away with some inspiring ideas and thoughts about what George had discussed. When they returned to their classrooms they brainstormed a list of things they would be able to try in their own writing. It was perfect timing as they are working on how to write like an author!

Here are some of the things they said:

  • To get one idea from another idea from another idea to make your story sound better - Liv
  • To edit my writing more - Leon
  • Get inspiration from other things that have happened to you in real life and turn them into stories - Abir
  • Add more action into my story but not too much because the reader is going to know what will happen next - Ben
  • To make the reader feel like they are in the story more - Paige
  • To shorten my writing more because sometimes the sentences are too big and the reader might run out of breath -  Nathan
  • Make things that can’t talk, talk in my stories - Brandon
  • More planning! Every time you come back to a story you might forget, so that when you come back to it you aren’t waffling because you planned in your head. - Hollee
  • Don’t start my writing the exact same way every time - Joel
  • I thought that when people wrote books that people read over it and edit themselves. But when I heard the part when he said he goes to an editor I just realised I was wrong.  - Alexia
  • Get people in the room to give us feedback -Miss Dissengna

George Ivanoff’s next book will be a non fiction book called The Australia Survival Guide. It will be released in bookstores on the 1st October.

The Scholastic Book fair is coming to Kingswood early next term, and we need your help to make it run smoothly. A Compass post has been sent to all families, requesting help during the Book Fair. If you can volunteer an hour or so, please let me know either by Compass, via the office or come and see  me in the library. Thank you.
