CASEA and the Zones of Regulation

Following the enthusiastic requests from parents who attended the Zones of Regulation information session earlier this term, the CASEA team would like to invite you to attend a training session on Thursday, September 12th at 2pm.  At the session they will run through the same training the staff were given so you will leave with a full understanding of the approach and with ideas on how you can use the language at home with your children.

While I understand this time will not work for everybody, we are limited to what we can offer because CASEA is an external service who are providing this opportunity to us free of charge.  Also, please note that we cannot live stream the session on Facebook.

Please click here to register.

Parent Information Session:

Thank you to everybody who joined us for the Parent Information Session on Raising a Leader last month.  We had almost 250 views on Facebook as well as the parents who attended in person.  Our next session is on October 24th and will be on the theme of Uncovering Child Anxiety and Depression.  I will send out a registration link closer to the date.

A Place to Shine

I wanted to congratulate all of the senior students who performed during our Iconic Music Concert last week.  I was blown away by the standard of the performances – everybody was engaged in their performance and I found myself dancing along with the students.  A massive congratulations also has to go to all of the teaching staff who supported their students with their dances.  It was lovely to watch classes practise as I walked around the school in the days leading up to the performances.  We are committed to providing the students with a wide range of experiences so that everybody has a place to shine.  Some students shine in Maths, others on the footy field, while others express themselves most confidently and competently on the stage.  As well as these performances providing an opportunity for some children to shine, they offer a challenge to many students.  As we know from all of the research, it is exposure to challenges in a safe environment that equips your children with the coping skills and resilience to manage set-backs as they grow and develop resilience.

We would love your feedback on the performance as we begin to plan for 2020.

Leaders in Education

Kingswood once again hosted visitors from the Department of Education and from other schools across the state this week for our PLC Link School Leaders’ Meeting.  The feedback on the environment, culture and approaches to improving student outcomes was fantastic.  Verity Sheppard has been leading this project in our school and, along with  the staff who share their knowledge, expertise and best practice, has had a massive system-wide impact in progressing the Department of Education’s work towards their Education State targets.

Attendance

The Department of Education are setting very high standards for schools in relation to attendance.  As I’ve mentioned many times before, family holidays account for a very large proportion of our absences as do the occasional day off here and there.  We must be mindful that every day of school a child misses, they miss out on learning – not just that day but over the next few days as they try to catch up.

R U OK? Celebration

The Special Celebrations Working Party are organising events for the last week of term around the theme of R U OK? Day, which is on September 12th.  We will have lunchtime activities for the students, a 'nomi-mate' opportunity for students to name somebody who has been a good friend and a ‘find somebody who’ activity for parents.  We also have limited stock of official R U OK? merchandise that we will be selling for a gold coin.  More details to follow.

Calling all budding artists!

Yearbook Cover Competition entries due September 13th.

A message from our Yearbook Committee:

Here are some key things to consider if you would like to enter the competition. As an artist, you will need to think about what images capture Kingswood Primary School for 2019.

For example, what special events have happened, specialist lessons, Habits of Mind, school slogans, class events and generally what makes Kingswood a great school.

  • You must create your design on an A4 piece of paper using a portrait layout.
  • You need to complete it by colouring with pencils and textas.

Entries are due to the office by the end of Week 9, Friday September 13th. The SRC will consider the entries and announce the winners at the final assembly for Term 3.

This information will be sent out via Compass too.

Thanks and happy designing!
