Head Start is a school-based service with a focus on supported apprenticeships and traineeships where students can have significant involvement in their chosen career. The program helps students stay at school whilst undertaking formal vocational training in their chosen industry. These are paid roles and as the student is a part time apprentice or trainee. Head Start School Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships are available for students in Years 10 -12.

The Head Start team work with the school, employer, student and parent to build a flexible and tailored program which provides ongoing support and mentoring for the student throughout their engagement in the SBAT. This model of support helps students to get the best start in their career as the focus is not only on skill development but also ensuring that they spend significant time in the workplace.

Head Start students usually pick up extra days of work during the school holidays, and/or evening or weekends based on industry demands.

The Head Start program is for students who have a clear career goal, are work ready, can demonstrate maturity and commitment, and are able to juggle a busy life of school, studying at VET course, and working.

For further details, please contact Fiona Fisher, Head Start Industry Coordinator at Hampton Park - Fiona.fisher@education.vic.gov.au  or  Mobile: 0429 851 971.

You will be provided an application form to complete as the first step in this journey.
