Teaching and Learning Hub

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term 1 Wrap up

This term, we hit the ground running with an incredibly positive and vibrant start. Our main focus for the entire term has been to continue to emphasise high expectations for our learning community. High expectations means that all students are active and committed members of our school, wearing correct uniform, arriving to class on time and prepared for learning and generally being at their best each and every day. Our staff were focused on getting to know every student as a learner and as a person. Building rapport and re-establishing positive school routines was paramount. Furthermore, for our staff, this also involves empowering our students to ‘step up’ and take responsibility for their learning, enabled by our vertical curriculum model that provides students with a high degree of subject choice. We fundamentally believe that when students are empowered in their learning, they will attend school more regularly and be more engaged in their learning.

In the last two years, we have been heavily focused on improving our teachers’ instructional practice, that is, how effectively they teach in the classroom and how impact is measured. One of our primary foci has been to build a rigour and engaging curriculum coupled with embedding an agreed Pedagogical Model, developed in 2021, that is informed by contemporary research on best teaching practices. Every week, all teachers meet to collaborate and work on the curriculum as part of our Professional Learning Communities (PLC) approach.

Finally, on behalf of the Executive Leadership Team here at the College, it is with great enthusiasm that I write to you about our Education Sub-Committee. The purpose of this Sub-Committee is to seek regular feedback, ideas, and suggestions from interested parents and carers about our Educational Programmes here at the college. It is well known that when school staff, and parents, and carers work closely together, student wellbeing and academic outcomes improve. We believe that this Sub-Committee will over time help strengthen our partnership with parents and carers so we can continue to improve the educational opportunities and achievements for all students.

I am seeking more expressions of interest from parents, carers, and community representatives who would like to become active members of this new Education Sub-Committee. If you are interested in getting involved, please don’t hesitate to contact me. The committee is led by Assistant Principal, Paul Broecker, members of the Curriculum and Pedagogy Team, and Student Leaders. The commitment required for members will be one meeting every third Tuesday of the month, with a duration of approximately 1 hour at a time suitable for all members.

If you are interested or have any questions, please contact me on 8795 9400 or at paul.broecker@education.vic.gov.au

Sincerely,

Paul Broecker

Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning
