Principal's Report

Dear Parents/carers, staff and students,

As we come to the end of Term 1, I want to take a moment to reflect on the challenges and hard work that we have all faced together.  I wish to remember Year 7 student Eric Narann, who sadly passed away earlier this term. During this challenging time, I was immensely proud of our students and staff as we supported each other and Eric’s family. This term has been a busy and productive one, with many exciting events and developments taking place within our school community.

One highlight of the term was our House Swimming Carnival, which saw our students come together in a spirit of healthy competition and teamwork. It was heartening to see so many of our students participating in the various aspects of the program extending beyond swimming while displaying their skills, sportsmanship, and house pride.

Beyond the swimming carnival, it has been great to see our students embodying our school values of Respect, Learning, and Working Together. I have been impressed by the way our Year 7s and all new students have quickly settled in, made new connections and demonstrated a willingness to embrace all of the exciting learning opportunities the college has to offer.

This program bookends the work that commenced at the start of the term. Student wellbeing is the foundation of academic success. The Year 7 wellbeing day took place this week. Year 7 Wellbeing Day

1. Cyber safety, 2. Resilience & Bounce Back, 3. Wellbeing and self- care.  Recently, Year 9 students participated in a workshop with the Pat Cronin Foundation. Building resilience, connections, while supporting others places students in the strong position to accelerate their learning.

This week, House Cross Country was held. Thank you to our VET students for leading the co-ordination of this event.

I wish to welcome the following new staff to our learning community. Leading Teacher- Professional Practice Leader- Carol Thomas and Teacher Food Studies- Yin Zhao, Paul Kamel- Learning Support Officer, Nida Mukhtar- Learning Support Officer, Felicity Doherty- Learning Support Officer, Lavlin Azad- Learning Support Officer, Christian Haddad- Student Wellbeing Officer and Christen Barnard- STEAM Tech

We have also seen progress in our Stage 3 building program. While there were some initial delays with the pre-demolition work for the Student Wellbeing and Science buildings, the work is now progressing well. During the upcoming school holidays, additional noisy excavation work will take place, this is designed to address  some of our ongoing flooding concerns.

Looking ahead, we have a Curriculum Day on Monday 24th April, which will provide staff with an opportunity to engage in curriculum planning. Please note that this is a student-free day. Following the Anzac Day holiday, classes for Term 2 will commence on Wednesday 27th April.

As we approach the end of the term, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all our staff, students and parents for their dedication and hard work throughout this busy period. It has been an honour to witness our community coming together to support one another and to strive for excellence.
