The Smile Squad team from Bendigo Health are coming to our school late March 2023.

Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.

This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.

School Council

A reminder that our first meeting will be held on February 27th beginning at 5pm.

Please let Lisa or Bree know if you are not able to make it. Meetings are held at the school and never go for more than an hour (usually a lot faster). Packs are sent home to council members the week before a meeting, and if you can please read over the contents, that ensures we can have a speedy meeting without having to go over the information within the packages.

At this first meeting we will decide on a meeting night and time that suits most members.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held in March (proposed date is March 20th) and this is where we will deliver our annual reports and elect new office bearers.

It is not too late if you wish to become a parent member of our council, please contact Lisa at school if you think this is something you would like to do.

NAPLAN

Each year students in Years 3 and 5 are expected to sit a series of four tests in the areas of Reading (comprehension), Spelling & Grammar, Writing and Numeracy. These tests take place over a nearly two week period. With the exception of the Year 3 Writing Test, these tests are all conducted online. All tests are marked externally and results are provided to families and students some time later. Traditionally, the NAPLAN testing period has been in mid May. However, this year it has been moved to March. Parents of students in Year 3 and 5 will receive some further information shortly. However, if you have any questions or concerns before this information is sent home (or after having read it), please do not hesitate to contact Lisa.

Annual privacy reminder for our school community

Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.

Please take time to read our school’s collection notice, found on our website https://www.raywoodps.vic.edu.au/  . If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using  please contact the school. For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents.

Breakfast Club

Don't forget that we have now begun our Friday morning breakfast club with  cereals, toast, spaghetti, baked beans, two-fruits, milo and milk always on offer and the occasional specials such as bacon and eggs, pancakes and other treats throughout the year. Students are invited to join us when they arrive at school on a Friday morning; they are encouraged to help serve their food and do their dishes.

Being part of this program also allows us to be able to have foods on-hand for morning recess and lunch for when students have forgotten, misplaced or managed to ruin theirs (leaking drink bottles and sandwiches often do not mix). So families please don't ever stress if your child has forgotten their lunchbox or something happens to the food that was so lovingly packed into it- we always have snacks and food items on hand to ensure that no one goes hungry.

Fresh Fruit

A huge thank you to Daryl from  the Terry Floyd Foundation for organising to have a box of fresh seasonal fruit, some juice and bread dropped in for our students. This fruit is available for our students to enjoy at break times and the juice and bread will be gratefully used at Breakfast Club. How lucky we are to get such great support from the Terry Floyd Foundation.

That's all for this week- Lisa Duffy
