Headphones

For ease of use of digital technology in the classrooms, teachers have requested that students bring in headphones.

Please send these to school with your child as soon as possible.

Music:

Welcome back to a new year and term. In Music this semester, students from Grades 1-6 are exploring music, dance and culture from around the world. We will be visiting every continent (except for Antarctica) through music, movement and moving towards instruments. In Foundation, students will learn the elements of music through games and simple songs. Our focus is on rhythm, beat and pitch for the first part of the term. We will then move to tempo (fast and slow) and dynamics (volume). If you have any questions about the Music program, please don’t hesitate to email the school.

You Can Do It:

We have started the term looking at Identity and Belonging, finding out about our own unique characteristics as well as exploring those of others. We will also be incorporating some Kitchen Garden activities starting with Grades 3-6 and talking about the benefits of being in natural spaces for our wellbeing. This week we went out and began to prepare the garden area and looked at the different plants that are growing already.

Kitchen Garden:

Grades 3 & 4 will be cooking in YCDI and Music from 22nd-24th Feb. An email will go out via the teachers, around what we will be preparing and accommodations for allergies. If there is anything further I might need please reply to the teacher and they can pass it on. That would be fantastic. We will be doing these activities based around what is growing in abundance seasonally once, or twice a term.
