Principal's Report

,Dear families,

WELCOME BBQ

Hopefully many of you will take the opportunity to come along tonight and catch up with members of our school community. We look forward to seeing you there.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast Club will commence on Wednesday 22nd of February from 8am-8.45am. This year we would like to have a roster. If you would like to help out, please contact the school with a date that will suit you.

BIKE SAFETY

It has been brought to our attention that a student’s bike was vandalised last year whilst at school. Students have been reminded that the bike area is out of bounds during school hours and if they damage anyone else’s bikes or property, they are responsible for the costs of repairs. Additional security cameras have been installed to provide footage of the following areas: hen house, bike racks and under cover area.

ATHLETIC SPORTS

Usually, the Toolamba and Tatura Athletic Sports days are held in Term 1. This year they have been moved to Term 3 to coincide with Regional Athletic events. The date for the Tatura & District Athletics (Grades 3-6) is the 12th of September. The date for the Toolamba Athletic Sports is yet to be confirmed.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICINE

If your child requires medication at school, parents are required to fill out an Administration of Medicine form.

LITTLE LEARNERS LOVE LITERACY

This week, three more of our teachers have trained in Little Learners Love Literacy. Toolamba P. S uses an explicit synthetic phonics approach to the teaching of Literacy. This approach to Literacy is evidence-based, explicit, multisensory, and comprehensive. Little Learners Love Literacy is a clear and effective way of teaching reading by including 5 key components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency practice, vocabulary and comprehension. Little Learners Love Literacy has been developed to do this in a simple, sequential, explicit, effective and engaging way. As of this week all  of our staff are fully trained in Little Learners Love Literacy

SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS

Before and after school

Toolamba Primary School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8.45am until 3.30pm. Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students.

If a student arrives at school before supervision commences at the beginning of the day, the principal or nominee staff member will, as soon as practicable, follow up with the parent/carer to:

  • advise of the supervision arrangements before school
  • request that the parent/carer make alternate arrangements.

If a student is not collected before supervision finishes at the end of the day, the principal or nominee staff member will consider whether it is appropriate to:

  • attempt to contact the parents/carers
  • attempt to contact the emergency contacts
  • place the student in an out of school hours care program (if available and the parent consents)

For further details related to supervision  please refer to our Yard Duty Supervision Policy on our website. www.toolambaps@vic.edu.au
