Wellbeing News!

We are excited to be back at Greensborough College for 2023. We have included several flyers, later in this newsletter, with information for parents and carers about community information sessions and wellbeing themes.

We have noticed that the students at the college are a lot more settled this year, it’s as though they have settled back into the expected routine of school a lot sooner than 2022.

Attending school every day is so important for children and teenagers. Daily attendance helps young people feel supported in their learning and their wellbeing as they connect with their teachers, other school staff and their peers. Our teachers and support staff work hard at Greensborough College to provide engaging and inclusive environments in the classrooms. Outside of lesson times there are lots of lunchtime clubs that our teenagers can attend to meet and connect to other students across different year levels.

Daily attendance is not just beneficial for your child’s academic outcomes, it is vital for their social and emotional development. We know that there are many reasons why a child may be absent at times. Multiple and chronic absences should involve visits to the family doctor/GP to have your child’s physical and mental health assessed.

Our experience of Covid and lockdowns in the last couple of years has had an impact on some teenager’s ability to connect and reconnect to school. For children and young people unable to attend school, the term used is school refusal. But some of the newer language is describing this as School Can’t. See below links for more information on this. However, we know that being connected to school, friends and our communities means healthier and better adjusted young humans that can contribute and participate in our society as adults.
