SOUTHERN METROPOLITAN REGIONAL ATHLETICS

Three Murrumbeena students proudly represented Murrumbeena Primary School at the Southern Metropolitan Regional Athletics on Thursday 18 October at Casey Fields Athletics Track in Cranbourne; Charlotte N, Gryffin M and Angus M.

There was plenty of rain in the morning, but it held off for the majority of the day. There was a great deal of excitement and nerves from all three competitors.

Gryffin started off the day competing in shotput, with his best throw of 3.51m, gaining a gold medal and progressing to State finals. The competitors from other age groups loved his enthusiasm and positivity.

Charlotte was the next competitor in the 100m. She had a lead from the very beginning and won the race by a good 5m! She also achieved a PB of 13.45sec., smashing her old PB. Charlotte is therefore also through to State for 100m.

Gryffin and Angus also competed in 100m. Their multi-class race was the last race for the 100m. Both boys ran so well and finished with big smiles on their faces. Angus ran a time of 22.41 and Gryffin ran a time of 22.02. Gryffin finished 2nd in his age group and received the silver medal and Angus finished 4th place in his age group.

The next race for all three of them was 200m. Charlotte was up first and, again, had a very convincing win, running a time of 28.73, with the second place runner achieving a time of 29.33. She is through to State for 200m.

Angus and Gryffin ran in the same race, with six other competitors.  Gryffin ran a time of 49.95 and Angus ran a time of 50.78.

Some of the competitors in the multi-class category have formed a close bond through athletics, which is fantastic to see. Angus won a bronze medal (third place) and Gryffin won his second silver medal for the day.

Congratulations to all three athletes!
