Year 5/6 News

Sacramental Journey
Students in Year 5 and 6 continued their faith journey over the weekend as they celebrated their Confirmation on Saturday and First Eucharist on Sunday.
Over the past few weeks, students have continued to explore the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and further developed their understanding of Church rituals.
As part of their preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, students in Year 6 visited the Mary Glowrey Museum and the Mary Mackillop Centre. They explored and reflected on the features of Mary's story and legacy and engaged in interactive activities to reflect on both inspiring women. Following this, students engaged in a reflective session with Father Simon and enjoyed a visit from Bishop Terry Curtin about the context of Confirmation in their lives today.
We thank all involved in the preparation of both Sacraments and felt so grateful to be able to experience these Sacraments as a school community.
Maths
As we continue to encourage students to self-direct their learning, we have supported students to set learning goals and appropriate clinics based on their pre-testing data.
We continue to encourage students to share their learning goals with you. This can also be found on our Google Classroom page.
To continue to support your child over the coming weeks in Multiplication and Division, we recommend continued practice of their automatic recall of times tables, regular practice on the Essential Assessment platform (these tasks are personalised based on the testing data of each child), and regularly encouraging the use of multiple strategies to solve the four operations.
e.g. How else can you solve/show that? Tell me your thinking. How do you know?
Please find below a quick trick to support your child to automatically learn their 9 times tables.
As part of some of our Maths clinics, students have explored the connection between multiplication, square numbers and square roots. Students then created videos teaching others about it!
Student Representative Council (SRC)
