Year 3/4 News

Prayer and Lent
In RE and Wellbeing, our focus is all about prayer and Lent.
We have been participating in activities about Lent and Easter and how they show us that we will be on a journey with Jesus. We used the picture story book, 'Where the Wild Things Are' to help us connect the ideas together. The students have also participated in Christian meditation, creating prayer journals, making Lenten calendars, reading the stories leading up to Easter and discovering the work that Caritas is doing all over the world to help those in need in other countries.
eSmart Digital Licence Primary Program
This week, we have started the eSmart digital licence modules that the school has invested in to develop the skills and an awareness of our student's online world. We have started with the module, communicating safely online.
Here is a summary of what the course will provide the students in Year 3/4 over the next 3 weeks.
Overview:
As members of society, we have always communicated with others but with the rise of the online world, our mediums of communication and ability to connect with new people have grown significantly. This rise has happened so quickly that social norms, skills and legislative change to help us communicate safely on the numerous platforms available are having to play catch up. We’ve moved from conventions in letter writing and protocols around meetings to a world that relies on choosing the right emoji to convey meaning. Greater exposure to the outside world has also created new threats to our children’s safety and online grooming is now the fastest growing crime in the world. Children have a naturally positive bias towards strangers and predators know it. The good news is that there are practical things we can do to help our students meet the challenges of this new world order – helping them to create positive and meaningful connections and building their skills to counter the threats they face.
