Year 1/2 News

Parts of Speech

There are several different parts of speech, which are categories of types of words. This term the Year 1/2 students have been learning about and will continue to work on four of the main eight parts of speech, which are nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Understanding the parts of speech teach us to use words properly in a sentence and become better writers.

Students have been busy identifying the different parts of speech within their reading tasks and also including them in their writing. It is great to see the students confidently using these different words in many different ways.

Year 1/2 Cultural Celebration Day

As part of our Term 1 Inquiry Unit, 'Different Cultures, Familiar Ways', we will be celebrating Harmony Day with a day of festivities on Friday 19th March. On this day, 1/2 ‘s will be participating in various cultural workshops and activities throughout the day as well as a joint ‘feast’ to celebrate international cuisines. To make this possible, we kindly ask if your child can incorporate a snack, or small dish that reflects your cultural background in their lunchbox. For example, sushi, spring rolls, pasta or biscotti. Please note that food will not be shared so please make the portion adequate for just your child to eat. Should you choose not to prepare food, your child will still participate in the international feast. If you have any questions, feel free to email your child’s homeroom teacher.
