Environmental Council

Throughout Term 1, the Environmental Council has been occupied with the continuation of the Regeneration Project. After a few fatalities over the Christmas holidays, we are beginning to replace them by propagating Wattle Seeds and Callistemon seeds in preparation for replantation around the creek on the outskirts of McCarthy College grounds. On the 12 February, the Environmental Council was blessed with Ms Miligates knowledge and education of the importance of proper soil use, potting mix and overall insight into the issues in our environment. As well, the Environmental Council partnered with Vinnies at the swimming carnival to help with the barbeque.

The Environmental Council would like to thank Woolworths, particulary manager Belinda Dawson, for the supply of the bread and an $80 gift voucher for the swimming carnival. We appreciate the help very much. We would also like to thank Ms Miligate for taking the time to enlighten us with more knowledge regarding the environment and the ways in which we are able to improve our planting habits.

Over the course of the next month, the Environmental Council will be participating in Clean Up Australia day on the 5 March, helping not only our college grounds but the surrounding community, promoting a cleaner environment. The Council will also be assisting the Lions club on the 7 March to clean up the community. Not only will we be participating in Clean Up Australia for the betterment of our community and environment, we are deciding to implement 10 cent recycling in the College, as well as bringing back paper recycling in classrooms to further advocate for overall sustainability within the College community.

For those interested in making a difference to the environment, come and join. By contributing to the Environmental Council, you can have a direct impact on our College environment, opening many opportunities to encourage a cleaner environment globally.
