Australian animal art

Year 1 students selected and illustrated an Australian animal. They then took inspiration from local Indigenous art techniques to create patterned trees. The colour blue was used to honour artist Dhambit Munuŋgurr, who lives and works in Yirrkala. In 2005, Munuŋgurr was given special permission to use acrylic paint, following a car accident that left her using a wheelchair and made it more challenging for her to manipulate natural pigments around a bark canvas.
