From the School Leadership Team,

From Mr. Chant.

Principal

The school year continues to roll forward and the finish line is another week closer.

We held an online assembly, for students and staff, yesterday in recognition of Remembrance Day.

The weather conditions are truly reflective of Melbourne and the number of students arriving at school without their hats is a concern. The other big issue is the sheer volume of lost property arriving each day as children take off jackets and tops and leave them as they return to class. Next week we will display all items on Thursday afternoon for families to peruse and hopefully reunite them with their owners.

This week we were informed of a positive COVID-19 case at our school. Please be vigilant and monitor the health of your child. All children from year 3 to year 6 need to wear masks (unless there is a medical exemption). We also encourage our junior school students to  wear masks while they are at school. Please arrange for some spare masks to be kept in your child's bag.  There are often many students at the front office seeking a mask.

We have made the decision to cancel the year 5 and 6 camp that was planned for next week. This decision was not an easy one to make as we were acutely aware of the impact, the expectation and the sheer amount of effort that had been undertaken to organise and get this event up and running. A number of families and class members have potentially been exposed to COVID over the last week and we are asking families to access testing if they need to, and then inform us if the outcome is positive for Covid-19. A positive result generates school based contact tracing processes and a DET direction as to next steps. These will be communicated to families via COMPASS. The decision to cancel our camp has been challenging, and has generated some heightened levels of concern in our community.  I thank all those who have contacted me with their questions, support and suggestions for the next steps.

I can assure all families that our staff are looking at some options and next steps in relation to the camp not going ahead.

I would ask all families to be respectful of this issue and use their access to online platforms appropriately and with consideration to those involved in the process and the aftermath.

Each year around this time we ask students to provide a list of classmates that they can work well with. Sometimes they list friends and sometimes they list children they don’t want to be with in class in 2022. Staff use this information to create class groups that are designed to be positive working spaces for everyone in the class.

We are getting closer to the dates where we are filming Rock Bottom. The week scheduled for the “Rock Bottom” recording and class performances is from Monday, November 29th to Friday, December 3rd.

Our final Curriculum day for the 2021 school year is planned for Friday 17th December. TeamKids will operate a long day program for those families who require this service. Contact TeamKids to make a booking.

The final day for students this year is Thursday 16th December and school will finish at normal time.

The 2022 School starts for our students on Tuesday, 1st February. Preps begin Monday, 7th February.

Prep Transition commences next week and we look forward to families bringing our next group of students onsite to experience what “big school” is all about. Welcome to our new families.

Donations needed for the Second-hand Uniform Stall on Thursday 18 November 2021 at 3.30pm-4pm.

Have your children outgrown their uniform or just not wear some items?

Please look through your cupboards and donate unwanted items, in re-saleable condition, washed and dried. Donations can be dropped off to the PC Donation Box located in the main building near the front office and staircase. (Please give them to your children to drop off)

Meanwhile, thankyou for helping other parents secure some handy uniform bargains, especially after such a difficult couple of years. All monies raised will be directed back to the school for purchases that benefit all CJC students.

From Mr. Borg.

Student Attitudes to School survey (AToSS) Results

Dear parents, families and carers,

As I alluded to in my message last week, recently we received our AToSS results. This survey provides valuable feedback from our Year 4-6 student body regarding their perceptions of our school and their learning experiences. Overall, there have been improvements across the board regarding our students' learning journey and social/emotional wellbeing.

Some results that I would like to share with you are:

  • 90% of our students responded saying that they have not experienced bullying at our school. This is an extremely positive result and well above the State average and like schools (schools which are similar to ours).
  • 89% of our students have a positive attitude to attending school. Again, this is an improvement at our school and competitive with like schools.
  • 85% of our students feel a sense of inclusion. This is on par with schools in our learning network and considering the challenges we have endured with online/onsite learning, a pleasing result.

Over the coming weeks, the AToSS data will be further unpacked by our staff and we will continue to work towards improving the learning and social/emotional/interpersonal experiences at our school.

Thank you.

From Mme. Pommier,

French Director.

Dear CJC community,

We are already standing at the mid-line of the last term for this year. The school is buzzing with activity and we are working tirelessly in the background to prepare for the new school year ahead.

DELF

Our bilingual grade 6 cohort have now completed their DELF PRIM 2022 examinations.  We wish them great success, they have put a lot of effort into their work.  Thank you to Mme. Duimovich and Mme. Floch for coordinating this important event.

Prep Transition

Next Wednesday, we will have the pleasure to welcome our new 2022 Prep students for their first transition session at CJC.  It is with excitement and anticipation that these young minds enter our school to begin their primary education journey. The Prep team has prepared fantastic activities for them.  Thank you to everyone involved.

French Immersion Program

We are pleased that our French Immersion Program is proving to be popular with our families (Victorian curriculum enriched with 1 lesson per day in the French language).  We were successful in filling a Prep class, this is exciting news, the program is one step further into our multilingual and multicultural philosophy.

A great weekend to all!
