Principal's Report

Year 11 Camp

The year rapidly draws to a close, with the Year 11s now in their final days of this year, enjoying their Melbourne orientation experience, otherwise known as the Year 11 camp. The students spend 3 days learning to use public transport, navigate around unknown areas and visit both university and TAFE options, including accommodation. The students are privileged enough to be able to listen to a talk at ‘The Big Issue’ to gain a better understanding of homelessness in our bigger cities.

The Rotary Club of Mount Beauty has been supporting this important camp for our Year 11 students for many years now, even before I was the Year 11 Coordinator, from memory.  Their financial support means that this experience is kept within the reach of all our students, allowing them this important bonding time together, as well as experiencing independence in a city.  I’d like to thank Rotary for their generous support yet again.

Activities Week

Activities week begins next week, but we are yet to finalise the program for the next 2 weeks of school.  Year 10s have their last day this year in activities week, being Tuesday 6th December.  Students in Years 7 – 9 are expected to attend throughout the activities program.  Casual dress, appropriate to school activities can be worn, but we have to stay SunSmart, meaning covered shoulders, closed in footwear and a broad brimmed hat required for when heading outdoors.  Remember, Monday 5th December is a student free day, where teachers will be writing reports.

Child Safety

Child safety is something that comes second nature to people working in schools. Our staff are aware of and keep our young people safe, both at school at and home. For parents or other visitors to the school, we ask that you enter the main building via the front entrance and head straight to the Office, where you will be assisted. Even if you are dropping something off for your child and know where their locker is, we ask that you respect our rules to ensure that our students, who may not know you, also feel safe in their environment.

School Council

We held our last school council meeting of the year last week and I would just like to express my gratitude, on behalf of our school for all of the work that they have done throughout the year.  Our School Council, led by President Bronwyn Gray,  play an integral part in the governance of our school and the connection between our school and community and we greatly appreciate their time and effort.  Thank you.
