Learning Centre News...

Learning Centre One

We have had a fantastic start to our school year, the Preps have done an amazing job learning the school expectations and routines. They have formed some new friendships and were able to share stories about what they did over the holidays.

Over the week, they have showed an eagerness to their learning where they have explored: 2D shapes, different stories relating to starting school, the prayer mat and prayer and our PBL matrix - respect, responsibility, resilience.

Just a reminder;

  • Meet and Greets are Tuesday and Wednesday - please make sure you book in a time with the learning group teacher (information was sent out by Dojo)
  • ICT agreements, which will be available today (Friday), must be read over with your child, signed before your child can use ICT at school.
  • Get to know you sessions - please make sure you book in a time with your learning group teacher, these are conducted on the following  Wednesdays 15th Feb, 22nd Feb, 1st March and 8th March. These are 1 hour sessions where you will need to drop your child off at the front office and pick them up after an hour at the office.
  • Label your child's belongings with their full name - this helps when they go missing
  • Students are required to have their hat during September - April
  • Students are asked to start bringing their iPads from the 13th of Feb

Some tips to support your child at home:

  • Read a story and discuss what happened in the book
  • Shape hunt around the house
  • Simple counting (counting the amount of lego, toys, cars you see when driving)
  • Educational Apps such as reading eggs
  • Writing their name

We look forward to seeing you all at the Meet & Greets next week :)

Learning Centre Three

What an amazing start to the year!

Here is a snapshot of what it is like to be in year 1/2!

Our days begin with morning home group and prayer. We then move into Literacy where we have been exploring our teacher's favorite books while doing lots of fun activities. During this time we are also able to eat ‘brain food’, this can be any fruit or vegetable, just a little snack to help get us through to the first break.

After the first break, we start with Maths. In Maths, we are learning about numbers in our lives and how to make these numbers. Then we have inquiry. Here we are identifying our class routines and exploring our schools gospel values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience and how we can show these at our school.

After the second break, we end the day with religion. In religion, we are learning about prayer and writing our own class prayer.

We end the day by cleaning up and reflecting on the day during home group.

Just a reminder;

  • 1pm Finish on Tuesday for Meet and Greets.
  • ICT agreements will go out Friday, these need to be returned before your child can use ICT at school.

We look forward to meeting with you all at the meet and greets next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Learning Centre Four

We have had a wonderful start to the year here in our new Year 3/4 Learning Centre 4! All of our students have adjusted well to the new surroundings and are relishing being able to play on the senior playground and oval.

To begin this term, in Literacy, we will be focusing on reading aloud stories and responding to them. We will also be exploring the structure of narratives and the key language features, such as descriptions, varied sentence structures and dialogue. In Numeracy, we will be exploring place value including numbers up to 1000 and 10,000. Our Inquiry in the first few weeks is about our PBL Matrix, expectations and how we can be the best learner possible. We will begin our term exploring prayer, including the Rosary and prayers of sorrow and forgiveness, leading into our sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation.

Things you could do at home to support your child's learning include:

  • Reading picture story books or short novels with your child, discussing the structure, plot or descriptive language in the text.
  • Explore numbers in the hundreds and thousands, go on number hunts around your neighbourhood (letter boxes) or at the shops etc.
  • Discuss the PBL Matrix with your child

Some reminders:

  • Students should have a school hat and a drink bottle.
  • Students can bring a small brain food snack (fresh fruit or vegetables) that they can eat during 'Brain Food' time in the morning.
  • Meet and Greets are next week - if you have not already, please use the link on Dojo to make a booking.
  • ICT agreements, which will be available today (Friday), must be read over with your child, signed and returned before your child can use ICT at school.

We look forward to welcoming you all to our learning centre next week for our Meet and Greets.
