Principal's Chat

Term 1, Week 2 - Friday 3rd February, 2023

Welcome Back

Welcome back to the 2023 school year!

I congratulate the students for their positive start to the year.  Each Learning Centre has settled into the routines of school with relative ease.  The teachers have been delighted at how each Learning Centre has settled in to the new school year.

The 2023 prep students have settled incredibly well and the only nervous tummies and tears came from some of our parents!!  Well done Preps on the impressive way you began your first year at school which is also a credit to the preparation from your families and the efforts from staff.

Welcome to the World

Traffic Traffic Traffic

After a few days of very quiet streets around our school (thanks to Manor Lakes College staggered start) the traffic congestion has returned.  I understand that school traffic is extremely frustrating and ask parents to remember the road rules and the need to be safe and courteous on the roads and in the school car park.

At OLSC our number one priority is to ensure the safety of the community.  There is no easy solution to the congestion problem especially with 2 large schools in the same area and so I remind all motorists of the importance of being patient and following the road rules to keep all road users safe!

Some suggestions to help ease congestion:

  • please fill the school carparks before queuing
  • avoid blocking the lanes on Howqua Way when waiting to gain entry into the car park
  • park off site and walk part of the way
  • utilise the back gate as well
  • avoid double parking and blocking traffic in Academy Way
  • obey the 'no u-turn' signs on Academy Way

Cyber-Safety Parent Workshop

This term we are working with the Cyber-Safety Project to offer workshops for students, the staff and an online workshop for parents.  The parent workshop will be facilitated by the Cyber-Safety Project and will take place via zoom on Thursday 16th February.  A zoom link will be sent to all parents closer to the date and I encourage all that are able to join this worthwhile forum.

The Cyber-Safety Project will also be conducting student workshops during the school day on Tuesday 21st May and working with staff at our afternoon meeting.

Have a great weekend, stay safe and see you all next week.

Justin and all of the staff at OLSC
